عنوان Liquorice ( Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) in North Khorasan , Iran : A review of Ethnobotanical importance and physiological traits

چکیده Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) is a key medicinal plant in North Khorasan, Iran, a region with diverse climates supporting over 400 native medicinal species. This study was conducted as a narrative review based on published ethnobotanical and physiological studies on Glycyrrhiza glabra L. Previously published ethnobotanical studies from North Khorasan Province, Iran (2022) reported high Relative Frequency of Citation (0.73–0.97) and Use Reports values for Liquorice indicating widespread medicinal use. Physiological traits such as drought and salinity tolerance, deep rooting, osmotic adjustment through proline and soluble sugars, and associations with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Microbial consortium) enable survival under harsh conditions and improve soil fertility. These findings highlight Liquorice’s potential for sustainable cultivation, soil reclamation, and medicinal applications in arid and semi-arid cropping systems in North khorasan district.
