چکیده
Achieving extended organ longevity is a critical goal in postharvest floriculture with significant economic and environmental benefits. This study provides an in-depth analysis of the senescence processes in the distinct floral organs of narcissus collected from ten diverse Iranian populations. Under controlled greenhouse conditions, the longevity of the corona and petals was investigated using visual assessments and a range of physiological and biochemical markers. The results revealed that the corona sustained an average longevity of 6.6 days, considerably outperforming the petals, which lasted on average 3.2 days. Notable findings include a significant reduction in protein and relative water content over three days, alongside a marked increase in oxidative stress indicators such as hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the petals. Differential activities in key antioxidant enzymes further underscored the unique ageing dynamics between the organs. The study advances our understanding of organ-specific senescence in narcissus and provides physiological insights that may inform postharvest management strategies and guide future breeding efforts aimed at improving organ durability.
