Evaluation of Physiological and Morphological Traits in Nine Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) Genotypes for Identification of Superior Genotypes

چکیده
Rapeseed is one of the most important oilseed crops globally, playing a crucial role in providing edible oil, industrial oil, and renewable biofuels. Identification of superior genotypes with high yield and optimal physiological characteristics is essential for plant breeding programs. This study was conducted to comprehensively evaluate genetic diversity and compare physiological and morphological traits in nine rapeseed genotypes. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications under optimal growth conditions. Twelve traits, including chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, relative water content, plant height, first branch height, number of siliques, and harvest index, were measured at two growth stages (pre-flowering and post-flowering). Analysis of variance revealed significant genotypic differences for all traits (P < 0.001). Genotype G6 exhibited the highest net photosynthetic rate (140.92 µmol CO₂ m⁻² s⁻¹) and plant height (175.33 cm). Genotype G8 produced the maximum number of siliques (474.28 pods). Genotype G1 demonstrated the highest harvest index (38.49%). Correlation analysis revealed significant relationships among traits, particularly a strong positive correlation between plant height and siliques per plant (r = 0.854, P < 0.001) and a strong negative correlation between stomatal conductance and harvest index (r = -0.718, P < 0.001). The identified superior genotypes (G6, G8, and G1) possess a favorable combination of physiological and agronomic traits and can be utilized in rapeseed breeding programs and commercial production.
