چکیده
KNOX (KNOTTED-like homeobox) genes play critical roles in plant growth and development. Recent studies have shown their involvement in stress responses, particularly under drought conditions. In this study we have investigated the expression of KNOX genes in Medicago truncatula under drought stress. In Medicago truncatula 10 KNOX genes were identified. We have evaluated the expression of these KNOX genes using transcriptomic data from the Medicago Expression Atlas, in roots and nodules under both watered and drought conditions (2- and 4-days post-water stop). The results showed that KNOX2, KNOX5, and KNOX10 exhibited significant changes in their expression levels in response to drought stress. In drought conditions, KNOX2 initially decreased (in 2 days) and later was increased (in 4 days), suggesting its role in nodule adaptation. KNOX5 expression was reduced in nodules under drought stress, which could indicate a stress adaptation strategy. KNOX10, on the other hand, was upregulated in nodules under drought stress, indicating its potential role in enhancing nodule resilience. These findings underline the possible involvement of specific KNOX genes in mediating plant stress responses and provide insights for improving drought tolerance in crops.
